Wasting is an acute nutritional problem in toddlers characterized by a weight-for-height/length z-score of < -2 SD. This community service activity aims to optimize the family's role in preventing wasting through nutritional education and the innovation of local supplementary feeding (PMT) in the form of CIPOFU dumplings.
The methods implemented in this activity included nutritional education via lectures using booklets, the production of local supplementary food, organoleptic testing, and evaluation using pre-tests and post-tests. This activity involved 10 mothers of wasted toddlers in the working area of Rejosari Community Health Center (Puskesmas), Pringsewu Regency, from April to May 2026.
The evaluation results showed an increase in the mothers' average knowledge from 85% in the pre-test to 94% in the post-test (an increase of 9%). The acceptability test revealed that CIPOFU dumplings were well-received, with scores of 7 for taste, 6 for aroma, 7 for color, and 7 for texture. Furthermore, measurements using the Comstock method showed that 75% of the portion was successfully consumed with 25% leftovers, indicating an excellent level of acceptance by the toddlers. In conclusion, nutritional education and local food-based supplementary feeding innovations have the potential to improve mothers' knowledge and support wasting prevention efforts in toddlers.
