Abstract

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death. In 2020, there were 2.3 million women with breast cancer worldwide, and the mortality rate reached 685,000 cases. One effective way to reduce the incidence of breast cancer is through prevention with self-breast examination (SADARI). However, SADARI has not received much attention due to a lack of motivation, attitudes, knowledge, and behaviors related to SADARI that remain low. The aim of this study is to determine the impact of SADARI education using a booklet method on the knowledge and behavior of adolescent girls regarding early breast cancer detection at SMK Yasmida Ambarawa, Pringsewu Regency in 2024.

This study is a quantitative research with a One Group Pre-Test Post-Test design, involving a population of 342 respondents and a sample of 77 respondents. The sampling technique used was disproportionate stratified random sampling, conducted in June 2024. Data on knowledge was collected using a questionnaire, while behavior was assessed using a checklist. The bivariate analysis in this study employed the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test.                                                           The results showed that the mean knowledge score before and after SADARI education increased from 71.43 to 93.68, and the mean behavior score increased from 36.14 to 98.81. The Wilcoxon test results for SADARI knowledge had a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05), and for SADARI behavior, the p-value was also 0.000 (<0.05), indicating that there is a significant impact of SADARI education using the booklet method on the knowledge and behavior of adolescent girls regarding early breast cancer detection at SMK Yasmida Ambarawa, Pringsewu Regency in 2024. It is hoped that SMK Yasmida will regularly provide SADARI education and include it as reading material in the library to enhance awareness and information, thereby improving adolescents' attention to early breast cancer detection behaviors.
