In 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the global maternal mortality ratio (MMR) was 223 per 100,000 live births. WHO also stated that, in 2020, a pregnant woman died almost every two minutes. In the same year, nearly 800 women died every day from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. This study aims to identify the factors associated with the utilization of the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Handbook among pregnant women at Sri Bhawono Public Health Center, Bandar Sri Bhawono District, East Lampung Regency, in 2025.
This study employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all pregnant women at Sri Bhawono Public Health Center, Bandar Sri Bhawono District, East Lampung Regency, with a total sample of 61 pregnant women selected using a total sampling technique. Primary data were collected and analyzed using bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test.
The findings showed a significant association between pregnant women’s knowledge and the utilization of the MCH Handbook (p-value = 0.004), between sociocultural factors (customary practices) and utilization (p-value = 0.020), and between husband’s support and utilization (p-value = 0.005) at Sri Bhawono Public Health Center, East Lampung Regency, in 2025. This study provides information regarding the importance of pregnant women’s knowledge in the utilization of the MCH Handbook and highlights the need to further improve their understanding of its use. Pregnant women are encouraged to consult healthcare providers—particularly midwives or obstetricians—when encountering difficulties related to the MCH Handbook, especially concerning signs of pregnancy danger.
