World Health Organization (WHO) data from 2023 reported that the global prevalence of anemia reached 40% among children aged 6–59 months, 37% among pregnant women, and 30% among women aged 15–49 years. According to the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI), 27.7% of pregnant women in Indonesia suffer from anemia. When categorized by age group, the highest prevalence occurs among pregnant women aged 35–44 years (39.6%), followed by those aged 25–34 years (31.4%). This study aimed to determine the effect of Ambon banana consumption on increasing hemoglobin levels among third-trimester pregnant women with anemia at Way Mili Public Health Center of East Lampung Regency in 2025.
This quantitative study employed a quasi-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of all third-trimester pregnant women with anemia at Way Mili Public Health Center, totaling 20 respondents. Primary data were collected after administering an intervention of 200 grams of Ambon banana daily for 14 days. Bivariate analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test.
The results indicated a significant effect of Ambon banana consumption on increasing hemoglobin levels among third-trimester pregnant women with anemia, with a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05). It is recommended that pregnant women with anemia consume Ambon bananas as a complementary nutritional strategy to increase hemoglobin levels, alongside maintaining a balanced diet and continuing to take iron supplementation provided by the health center.World Health Organization (WHO) data from 2023 reported that the global prevalence of anemia reached 40% among children aged 6–59 months, 37% among pregnant women, and 30% among women aged 15–49 years.
