Family Planning ParticipationAbstract
The Family Planning (FP) program is an essential strategy for managing population growth in Indonesia. Nevertheless, in 2022 the proportion of active FP participants at the Kebon Jahe Community Health Center in Bandar Lampung reached only 65.4%, falling short of the minimum target of 70%. This suboptimal coverage, especially in Gunung Sari Village where participation was 68%, suggests the presence of challenges that may be influenced by individual-level factors. Therefore, this research objective was to analyze the correlation between the characteristics of women with reproductive age (WRA) and their level of participation in the family planning program at the Kebon Jahe Public Health Center in 2025.
This study used a quantitative descriptive analytical design with a cross-sectional approach, where data were collected at a single point in time. The study location was Gunung Sari Village, within the working area of Kebon Jahe Public Health Center, Bandar Lampung. The population was all women with reproductive age (WRA) aged 15–49 years. The study sample consisted of 84 respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique. The independent variables studied included Age, Education, Occupation, Marital Status, Number of Children, Distance to the Public Health Center, Husband's Permission, and Community Support. Data analysis was performed univariately for frequency distribution and bivariately using the Chi-Square (χ²) test.
The results of the bivariate analysis showed a significant correlation between several characteristics of women of reproductive age (WRA), namely education (p < 0.05), occupation (p < 0.05), husband's permission (p < 0.05), and community support (p < 0.05), and family planning participation. This indicates that social and interpersonal factors have a strong influence on family planning decisions. Meanwhile, the variables age, marital status, number of children, and distance to the public health center did not show a significant correlation. It was concluded that the individual characteristics of WRA, especially those related to social support and understanding (education), were the main predictors of family planning participation.
