Hypertension is a condition in which blood pressure exceeds normal thresholds. In 2024, the prevalence of hypertension reached nearly 49%, and it is estimated that one in five women worldwide has hypertension, with a higher occurrence among menopausal women. One non-pharmacological therapy used to manage hypertension is the consumption of cucumber juice. This study aims to determine the effect of cucumber juice administration on blood pressure among menopausal women.
This research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group. The study was conducted in Sribhawono Village. The population consisted of 40 menopausal women, among whom 20 had elevated blood pressure. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, with a total of 18 participants assigned to each study group. The study was conducted in August 2025. The instruments used included a standardized operating procedure (SOP) for cucumber juice preparation, observation sheets, and statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon test and the Mann–Whitney test. The results indicated that the intervention group experienced a decrease in systolic blood pressure from 156.66 mmHg to 136.66 mmHg and a decrease in diastolic pressure from 93.33 mmHg to 84.72 mmHg after consuming cucumber juice. In the control group, systolic pressure decreased from 155.55 mmHg to 147.22 mmHg, and diastolic pressure decreased from 91.66 mmHg to 88.61 mmHg. Statistical analysis showed a p-value < 0.05, indicating a significant effect of cucumber juice administration on blood pressure reduction. Therefore, healthcare providers are encouraged to provide regular education on the use of cucumber juice as an affordable, accessible, and beneficial alternative therapy for individuals with hypertension. Such education may also enhance patient motivation to adopt healthy lifestyle behaviors and improve adherence to optimal hypertension management..
